K-Pop, an abbreviation of Korean pop music, has made its way to the Oxford English Dictionary!
Recently, the Oxford English Dictionary announced that “K-Pop” has officially been added to their vocabulary list. It defines “K-Pop” as “Korean pop music” and put it under a mass noun category. Other words that made the new list include “Tiger mother” and “infomania.”
Oxford produces one of the oldest and most prestigious English dictionaries in the world. The fact that “K-Pop” is now on their vocabulary list is a good reflection of the immense popularity the pop culture has been enjoying worldwide.
K-Pop has quickly become a global phenomenon recently. In the past year alone, Billboard Music Chart created a K-Pop category, while YouTube and Facebook launched separate pages for the music genre.
